6 Months In Thailand February - August 2015
I'm 24 female travelling to Thai land 3rd February to train for 6 months. Anybody else in the same position over this period ?
I've been training for around 8 months now, got made redundant at work so using the opportunity to travel and do something I love.
I'm not wanting to stay in the one place as I want to see the country.
I plan to head to Chaing Mai first to train at Lanna Muay Thai for a couple of weeks At least then head back down South and visit phuket and the islands.
I was already booked to go to super pro in samui before I planned this trip so il definitely go there at some point.
Was thinking of phuket top team. What's your thoughts on there?
Any tips for living in Thai land welcome. I've started to learn basic Thai .
Hi Kirsty I was planning a trip for the same time, but it's on hold now as i'll be fighting in the UK.....
The only thing I'd say is you might want to look at some alternative gyms.... Chang Mai has a couple of far better gyms than Lanna in my opinion...
Also in Phuket there are a number of gyms that have far better training and locations than Top Team....
I was actually going to stay on Koh Samui for 6 months.... I was looking at both Superpro and Jun Muay Thai, was probably going to go with Jun's as a potential long-term base.... my only issue with Superpro would be how busy it is, but if you are only there a few weeks then I guess that's not so much of an issue...
Ah ok are you planning on coming over once youv had your fight?
Well I'm up for any suggestions. What would you recomend for Chaing Mai? As Im pretty sure I'm going to head there first.
As for Phuket suggestions? I thought tiger may be to busy like you said with super pro? Maybe samulee?
I might try jun out aswell. I'm going to be there 6 months and I know il probably spend most of my time in an area I like best and I can see that being Samui. But I've never been so you never know dont wanna make any solid plans. Just go with how I feel at the time.
As for scooters. Never driven one but I plan too. I should pick that up pretty easy Eh? I drive car back home.
Also £5k for 6 months is my budget. That's do able Eh?
Hi Kirsty i'l.l send you a pm shortly...
5k is do able
renting a scooter in phuket dont hand over your passport.
also be careful at night between rawai and patong
just learn how to handle it and remember you have to lean at corners not just turn the wheel.
carry your licence and make sure you have the correct one, theres some fat norvun monkey working for the Thai traffic police in phuket and they set up roadblocks and he is the only one who can read the falang license classes and he is a right moody jobsworth cunt.
super pro I understand is a very dutch gym, lots of k1 style fighters.
elite in phuket is a good gym, I hear good things about rawai supa, bloke called Ryan is helping run it and he is a sound guy, minr just trained there, good trainer called kongbeng.
there were lots of girls at kaitphontip when I was there, lots of clinching and sparring to do and they have very heavy bags and its farily quiet out there if u want to be away from the madness, plus rob is a very sound bloke and so is his wife, young chaps there will make you view people you consider "good" back home in a different light.
tiger there are some sound trainers only problem is the whole area has turned into mma and crossfit central , up to you if you like that.
plenty of places to stay in phuket cheap.
you will be in Thai land in april may be prepared for some serious heat and humidity around that time.
pm me if u want advice or a faceful of man gloop, etc
dont lend people money , dont trust anyone, dont buy into the smiley faces and dont do drugs, cos drugs are bad mkay
thanks for all the tips. I'm not an idiot but I do have my blonde moments at times lol but I'm sure I'll be ok.
And as for drugs I wouldn't go near them. High on life mmkay.
I will look into these gyms and see what I think. So many choices and I'm a terrible decision maker.
Well 5 days to go now.... Bring it on : D
Can I ask what are you doing for a visa?
Also, any ideas what to do for a 12 month stay?
I got a 3 x 60 day pass. Which means I have to leave the country and go to say Cambodia or Vietnam to renew it before each 60 days runs out and then I can return to the country. Bit of a pain in the ass but it is what it is.
I'm not so sure about 12 months. You might have to get sponsored to go for that long? The longest amount the Thai consulate give you As a Travel visa is 3 x 60 days.
Pretty sure you can extend each entry by 30 days so 3x90 days, that's only 9 months though obviously.
Other option in an ED Visa if you're willing to learn Thai. Problem with that is that the rules have changed from 2 x 2 hour lessons per week to 4 x 2 hour lessons (I think in Phuket it might be 5) and now you can only get 6 months at a time instead of 12
