had tons of knee problems. had acl reconstruction, torn miniscus, mcl, pcl, acl, ect. miniscus is just arthoscopic. quick in and out day surgery with a lazer, quick recovery. easy and pretty painless. no anastetic. you will literally walk away from the doc after this surgery. its not structural dammage really, just a tear in the cusion around your joint. causes pain and nothing else. if you can deal with the pain, there is no need for the surgery really. its not the same as tendon ligiment damage. that said you will be training full speed in a month after the operation man. dont worry.
goto the pharmacy and get the white medical tape, the really tuff stuff. it looks like sports tape, or what i use to use for hockey. just wrap the hell out of ur feet with it. it should give you some protection and let the blisters heal. it takes a while for ur feet to toughen up, but eventually u wont need the tape anymore.
It's a mixed affair. I spent a great deal of time visiting different camps and some people rave about some camps I thought were terrible. When you turn up to a tourist area expecting authentic training - you're only deluding yourself. Having said that - one of the best camps i've been to was in Lamai -Samui. However my mate spent most of his time too hungover to train.
I think alot of Thai's are very reluctant to train, moreover spar with a westerner as westerners tend to go in too heavy. There's often the take each other's heads off, or the clumsy enthusiastic sparring too hard. You have too remember the Thai's livelihood may come from his sole physical ability and simple doesn't want to take the risk.
As a camp owner you can see that it can be frustrating watching a pad man ignoring the westerners - however if you were in their shoes you'd probably find yourself inclined to training the Thai fighters who you may have trained since a young boy and want to see make it to the top.
As for trainers doing the old 'knacker the guy out for three rounds then say he's done' is totally unforgivable. I've had it done to me in some so called 'outstanding gyms myself' - feeling like a right dick for forking out for that crap. However if you do choose a busy 'esablished' camp you're going to have to expect the McDonalds 'work your way up from the bottom and eventually you'll get a break'. It's to be expected really.
When visiting Krabi/Ao nang what is there to do for a restless soul like myself?
I head climbing and diving would be sweet, does anyone have any tips about that? maybe even some good prices they can share avbout.
